– The Story of Daphbees Ltd
Daphbees Ltd, founded by 23 years old Ampaire Daphine, is a pioneering social innovation enterprise dedicated to empowering young individuals through beekeeping initiatives. The company focuses on fostering opportunities for youth engagement and entrepreneurship in the apiculture industry. Through comprehensive training programs, market access facilitation, and the provision of high-quality beekeeping equipment, Daphbees aims to foster economic empowerment and environmental stewardship within communities.
Ampaire Daphine’s journey with Daphbees Ltd was ignited through the Youth Inspiring Youth in Agriculture workshop organized by the Young Farmers Champions Network (YOFCHAN) in partnership with Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations. (FAO).
“After reflecting on the insights shared by experienced experts and fellow aspiring farmers during the training, I had a profound realization: agriculture isn’t just about sustenance; it’s a pathway to prosperity. Inspired by tales of resilience and creativity, I embarked on a new journey, determined to carve my niche in the agribusiness sector. Fueled by a desire to make a tangible difference, I became intrigued by beekeeping, drawn to its potential for sustainable livelihoods and environmental conservation.” Daphine says.
“The journey was not without its challenges; however, armed with the knowledge acquired from training sessions and the unwavering support of my mentors, I persevered. Through trial and error, I mastered my business model, embracing innovation and adapting to market dynamics. The Young Farmers Champions Network became more than just a platform for learning – it offered continuous mentorship and a nurturing environment for growth,” She says.
She has faced challenges as a young female entrepreneur in a male dominated industry acknowledging “One of the biggest challenges I have encountered as a woman is that most people will underestimate my capacity and professionalism to do farming most especially bee keeping.” Never the less, Daphine views these challenges as a springboard to navigate and excel within the industry.”
With the support of our partner USAID/Civil Society Strengthening Activity under the project “Strengthen the institutional capacity of YOFCHAN and advocate for funding for youth in the Parish Development Model (PDM)”, YOFCHAN has been able to build capacity and provide market opportunities for Daphbees Ltd
